FAQs

LOGISTICS

  • Are your pieces food safe/microwave safe/dishwasher safe?
    • Yes! Unless otherwise specified, every piece is food, microwave, and dishwasher safe.
  • How do I care for my pottery?
    • Unless otherwise specified, you can wash pieces in the dishwasher. If your piece includes non-ceramic feet such as silicone or felt, it's best to hand wash those items with hot, soapy water. Each piece is fully vitrified, meaning it's no longer porous and should be fairly durable, but it's always best to handle them gently. Be mindful not to shock the temperature such adding very hot water to a refrigerated mug as this can lead to cracks.
  • Do you take custom orders or commissions?
    • I love to take custom orders when I have capacity to create them! You can request a commission via my Contact page. Please note that the turnaround time from start to finish is around 3-4 weeks from creation to shipping since I work out of a community studio.
  • Do you have a wholesale program?
    • I am proud to offer discounts on bulk purchases. Please reach out via my Contact page to discuss a custom order and pricing.
  • What's your typical turnaround time for shipping?
    • For existing work listed on the site, please allow about 2 weeks to account for packaging and shipping. Often I can send it sooner, but it's just me managing the backend here so I'd rather under-promise and over-deliver than the other way around.
  • What's your return/exchange policy?
    • All sales are final. I take great care to package your new pottery so it arrives safely. In the rare event something arrives damaged, please reach out via the Contact page so we can work out a replacement or refund.

MY WORK

  • What is nerikomi?
    • Nerikomi is a Japanese pottery technique that utilizes cross-sections of intricately stacked and layered clay to decorate vessels instead of glaze. The process is intensive, beginning with color selection and color testing to ensure the right ratio of stain to clay and to prevent burnout. Then the stacked designs are created, cut, and sometimes embedded into slabs of clay, all while managing clay moisture levels.
  • What clay body do you use?
    • I work with several Laguna clay bodies including Stoney White, B-Mix, and Long Beach. Almost all of my nerikomi work is created with Laguna's Cone 5 B-Mix.
  • What glazes do you use?
    • I use an assortment of cone 10 glazes available at my community studio. Sometimes the formulations vary slightly. For my nerikomi work, I use only a clear coat of glaze; all the color comes from mason stains.
  • What's your firing process/temperature?
    • All of my work is fired at Clay on First community pottery studio. Most of my glazed work is fired to cone 10 and most of my nerikomi is fired to cone 5.
  • Why do pieces vary slightly from photos?
    • Usually this is just because of inconsistent lighting on my part. I do my best to try to show true tones in photos, but sometimes pieces will vary slightly from what's pictured. Also, pottery is finicky! Ultimately, we're working with mud and fire so this art form is subject to lots of variation.
  • Do you restock sold pieces?
    • I do! Since I'm not a production potter, however, every piece of my work is somewhat unique and unlikely to be an exact replica of what you've seen before. If you love something I've made in the past, I can do my best to make a fresh version for you. Simply reach out via the Contact page.
